2.1
Corinth canal

Day 2.1 Corinth canal

Witness a legendary Corinth canal – a man-made miracle! 6 km among steep rocks walls rising up to 90 meters above the sea. Crossed by a railway line, road, motorway and even submersible bridges. The canal only accommodates ships under 17.6 m width and 7.3 m draft, which Running-on-waves is.

The canal has been a cherished dream since Periander - 6th century BC tyrant. But he was afraid of Gods’ wrath and also costs so instead he built Diolkos - stone carriageway where ships were dragged on rollers across the isthmus.  Diolkos enriched Corinth town. Julius Caesar and Caligula both considered digging the canal but died before starting. The emperor Nero even started construction, brought 6000 slaves but then gave up.

Myth:

In Corinth, Helius city, every detail is marked by Gods and Heroes. It keeps stories of Arganauts’ hero Jason and his wife Medea, cunning and punished Sisyphus, winged Pegasus, inconsolable Pirene and great many others.

Zakynthos

Day 3 Zakynthos

Zakynthos is second most visited Greek island. Venetians called it the Flower of the East. All due to natural wonders: glorified Shipwreck beach, the arcade of blue caves, National Marine Park sheltering rare Caretta-Caretta turtles, thickets of cypresses, pine trees and olives. Sugar-fine sand beaches vary from crazy lively to deserted. All this framed with sounds of mandolin kantades.

Myth:

Zacynthus was the son of the legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus   He sailed from the coast of Elis to the opposite island and became its first settler which was afterwards called Zakynthos after him.

Zakynthos was a favorite place of Artemis for hunting, and Apollo’s for singing songs.

Day 4 at sea

Whole day TALL SHIP sailing

While roving the sea, we will do our best to let you immerse into the genuine atmosphere of marine travel. We start with a tour of the ship, succeeded with the Bridge tour and the Engine tour. And we sincerely recommend you took part in our exclusive Marine Activities: children and adults alike will admire tying sailor’s knots under the Boatswain’s guidance; why not try yourself at mast climbing; the Captain and the Officers give regular master-classes on celestial navigation, sails setting, and probably the most exciting of all – you can put your hands on the steering-wheel and run the huge ship yourself like Captain Sparrow, basking in the feeling of freedom.

Syracuse/Sicily

Day 5 Syracuse/Sicily

In Syracuse ancient Greek ruins rise out of lush citrus orchards, cafe tables spill onto dazzling baroque piazzas, and honey-hued medieval side streets lead down to the sparkling blue sea.

Myth and history:

Ortygia a possible place where goddess Leto gave birth to Artemis, goddess of hunt. Asteria, the sister of Leto, metamorphosed into a quail (Ortyx), threw herself into the sea, and became the island.

Archimedes lived here and defended the city from Romans by using a large array of mirrors which reflected sunlight setting the ships on fire.
