Immersion Of The Underwater Cross

September 15, 2011 is a significant date in the history of the ship. On this day three bright events happened: grand formal completion of the expedition; the opening of the monument on the bay of Paralimni in honor of the completion of the expedition and in memory of all the dead sailors; an immersion of the cross with commemorative tablets in honor of the completion of the expedition in Russian, English and Greek.

The ceremony of the monument opening was attended by Russian Ambassador to Cyprus, Ambassador of Cyprus to the Russian Federation, the mayor of the town of Paralimni, Archbishop, the Bishop of Paralimni and Famagusta and other officials, religious leaders.

Russian traveler, Fyodor Konyukhov, installed the two-meter underwater cross from stainless steel on the seabed.

At the sea bottom he was spectacularly surrounded by the round dance of divers with glowing plastic crosses in hands from the Cypriot diving association. The underwater cross applied on all nautical maps.
